Story Behind the Song
Look away is an intimate look at a "friendship" relationship. In this particlar song the writer talks to her friend and really challenges him to look deeper and to come in deeper to the friendship, not sexually but emotionally. All of the songs off the Mind's Eye were pretty much first takes. My drummer was new and each time he played a song he seemed to create. The "Dogs" were new, we had really just gotten together. I wrote this song to my "best bud" Glenn Gaudin.
Lyrics
Look away
Sometimes when I look in your eyes it feels o.k.
Other times don’t be surprised if I have to look away.
Look away,
I might be seeing things from a long time ago.
Look away, and if you want me baby, we got to go slow, slow down!
New love is like an orgasmic rush running straight through our minds.
I love everything about you, your soul, your body your one of a kind.
Look away
I don’t really want you to see how I’m feeling, I’m embarrassed.
Look away,
what do you think about me? Are you feeling harassed?
Look away, look away way down.
look down deep inside.
Let’s get intimate baby, let’s have nothing to hide.
Look away down, let’s have nothing to hide, look away down.
So you want me to meet your mother,
Well I don’t really want to where a white dress.
But I would really love her to like me; I’ll just give god the rest.
Look away,
I’m a wounded child often labeled very dazed and confused.
It might take a little while but I think I could really love you.
Breaking up sometimes can be just like a crime.
There are people out there breaking hearts right on a dime.
Look away,
I don’t know if I want you to see all my vulnerabilities.
Look away, do I have me?
Silly what is meant to be is meant to be.
