    Story Behind the Song
I got the idea for the song when I was a kid and used to lay on my living room floor and listen to Pink Floyd records. I had my first guitar, a nylon string classical guitar from the sixties with only three strings remaining. I used to play along with my favorite classic rock albums for ever. I remember hearing a line in Dark Side of the Moon, where they say "shorter of breath and one day closer to death," and one day as a kid this song struck me about the speed of time and my own mortality. This song is an expansion upon this moment of awareness

    Lyrics
At rising tide the ravens cry
You can catch it as it falls
knowing many have tried to rise above
    To find these mortal walls

Let us drink 'neath the stars tonight
Fill with song and sweet delight
You are here where worry's far
If you only knew just how precious you are

Their shadows sound, their echoes cry
You can feel them at the door
You're warmed by joy and frozen by fear
    Like those that lived before

Let us drink 'neath the stars tonight
Fill with song and sweet delight
You are here where worry's far
If you only knew just how precious you are

    As I enter the morning
And I take my first step
    One day farther in life
    One day closer to death
    As I exit the evening
    Take my last waking breath
    One day farther in life
    One day closer to death

You rise in hope you sink in fear
    You ponder what it means
When you're alive and dread your death
    You're somewhere inbetween

I love this world, it is my home
Crazy joy and worries I've known
No human mind or human face
Could want to leave this place

    As I enter the morning
And I take my first step
    One day closer to life
    One day farther from death
    As I exit the evening
    Take my last waking breath
    One day closer to life
    One day farther from death
    One day closer to life
    One day farther from death
