Superhero once again showcases Michael's vocal talent and lyrical prowess, as well as some fun guitar licks. This is a clever little life story, beginning with childhood dreams of being Superman, through the escape from the everyday working world by transforming from a mild-mannered journalist into a performer on stage.

    Story Behind the Song
"The third verse (which was actually written first) was inspired by something said to me by a friend I was dating at the time. I was trying to work a day job, be a performer, search for a new day job, record a CD, design a Web site, and have a social life... while dating someone. She got frustrated one day and said 'You can't always be everything to everyone! You're not Superman!' Unfortunately for her, my social/dating life was the first thing that got cut back."

    Lyrics
    Superhero

When I was only 8 years old
I had a plastic mask and a cape of gold
I flew around the house and my neighborhood
With my best friend by my side

And I dreamed of a day when I was older
A little bit bigger, a little bit bolder
When danger reared its ugly head
I would never have to hide

    CHORUS:
And I could be a superhero
I could save the world in an afternoon
I want to be a superhero
But I've got to get back and clean my room

But now I sit here every day
Clicking the hours and the days away
    Just a mild-mannered, ambitious soul
Clark Kent in the chains of men

Through the door I shed my suit and tie
The drones and workers wonder why
But I leap up on the stage
And no one knows who I am

    CHORUS:
And I can be a superhero
Escape this dreary world in the afternoon
I want to be your superhero
And fly you straight up to the moon

But this Superman you fell in love with really isn't me
And I just can't go on pretending
I can be everything you want me to be

    CHORUS:
And I can't be your superhero
I can't save your world in this bedroom tonight
No, I can't be your superhero anymore
'Cause this feeling just ain't right
    Oh baby, please understand me

No I can't be your superhero
I can't save your world this afternoon
No, I can't be your superhero
I just can't fly you to the moon
