Story Behind the Song
Avalon began at a band practice one day. We were taking a few minutes to see if any of us could come up with any new riffs or song ideas to play with, when I (Travis) came up with the first line or two, and it snowballed from there. Almost the entire song was written as an improv. Later we refined it into what you hear now. It was (and I guess still is) considered by all of our fans as the definitive BRB song.
Lyrics
Make no mistake, here in the heat
They kill just to hear the sound of a .44 echo in the street.
If the darkest hour comes just before the dawn,
Then the end is coming fast to us in the town of Avalon.
Avalon, magic town, end of nowhere,
Here my cry, take me there,
And lay me down to rest beside a clear, blue stream.
Avalon, magic town, in the mist,
I still believe through all of this,
That you were more, than just a dream.
The nails are driven in my bed.
A shroud surounds me in my tomb, but I'm not dead.
And now I walk alone, across these lonely roads,
In a search for blood, a search for glory, and a lust for rich man's gold.
Avalon, magic town, end of nowhere,
Here my cry, take me there,
And lay me down to rest beside a clear, blue stream.
Avalon, magic town, in the mist,
I still believe through all of this,
That you were more, than just a dream.
Make no mistake, here in the sun,
The only ones to live are the ones with the fastest guns.
If the end is on us soon, with the coming of the dawn,
Then the widows with cry for the killers who die in the streets of Avalon.
Avalon, magic town, end of nowhere,
Here my cry, take me there,
And lay me down to rest beside a clear blue stream.
Avalon, magic town, in the mist,
I still believe through all of this,
That you were more, that just a dream.
