Story Behind the Song
In 1997, I took my (then) four year old son to a local carnival. He wanted to get on the motorcyle ride; the one that is basically a carousel, but with bikes instead of horses. Each bike had a button on the handlebar that could be pushed to make a "Vroom" sound. My son's bike had a short in the switch and when he pushed the button, a very staccato electric sound was produced. That sound became the rhythm and tone basis for this piece. The name of the song comes from the way in which kids on carousels wave to you as if they're never coming back.
