Story Behind the Song
This song was originally written as an instrumental by Scott, Sonny and Billy in 1996. When Bruce joined, the song came up during one of the rehearsals and the band decided to play a bit round with it and re-arrange it. Bruce wrote the melody line, the lyrics, the keyboard intro (which he plays himself), the guitar leads before the verses and added the accents to the instrumental break. Billy also came up with the outtro, which the band then worked out together and on which Bruce also plays keyboards. The end result is this. The guitars were all done in one take, including the solos and leads, as also was the bass. The vocal was the problem here, and the band is still not happy with them and waiting for the right opportunity to redo them at an appropriate time.
Lyrics
I never guessed just what it takes,
to live a life with no regrets.
I never saw I was failing -
only 'til now, that I'm old...
I have resisted - all my life
Bridge: No - I don't want to be free..
It's too late, nothing can change me.
Chorus: Resigned - no more life,
that's right:
The end, it draws near.
My spirit is fading,
'twas never as clear as now..
No - I'm giving up
I never thought it'd come to this..
How could I know the end was nigh?
I've never thought of death before,
but now it's coming soon
Out of the light - to the void
Bridge
Chorus
