	Story Behind the Song Remembering a past love and pondering the proverbial "what could have been," this song was written less as a lamentation, and more as a nod to one of memory's many quirks. When hard times come, one often looks to times past with an unmerited fondness. In those times, hindsight is no longer "20/20." It becomes a corrective lens of coke-bottle proportions that turns hometowns into Disney Land, and mismatched "exes" into "the one that got away." On a more academic note, Long Time Since was written with a quote that I once read in mind. (I have forgotten the author’s name, unfortunately.) The quote described blues as "about separation" from some beloved thing or person. The distance between the lover and the beloved might exist on a variety of planes: physical, temporal, emotional, spiritual. In a world where one can get away with defining blues as "a feeling"--a clever, useless, summation that has always reminded me of the text of a greeting card beginning with the phrase "words cannot express..."--I've always found the blues-as-separation definition to be the most...um...well...like, you know...cool.
