Story Behind the Song
Before taking a job as youth pastor at a new church, I began creating reasons to not take the job. I found myself running away from God's will because of my fear, just like Jonah.
Lyrics
"One ticket to Tarshish, please,"
the man said as he climbed aboard the boat
"It's getting time to leave, and Nineveh
I don't want to go."
He through his ringing phone in the sea and took a seat in the back.
He put his feet up and his guard down and settled with a laugh.
He said, "Who am I
that I turn and run away.
Who am I, to turn away and run from everything?"
Then the rain came down, and the boat fought against the Lord.
Then the rain came down, and the man was thrown overboard.
There was a child who once, wanted to run off to the city.
So he took his daddy's cash and spent it all on wealth and poverity.
Who am I
that i lie here with these pigs?
Who am I
to run back to my father once again?
Now I'm running back to you.
I call my self affraid to leave my family here.
But my truth cannot hold, the living water the Lord has poured for me.
Who Am I, to think i'm any diferent than them?
Where am I?
Standing here where I had first began.
Now I'm running back to you.
