Lyrics
I'm too old for the NHL.
And I'll never drink from the Stanley Cup.
Yes, it's true that I could never skate that well,
But it's too late for catching up.
Standing with the kids at the Old Timers game,
Trying to rub shoulders with fading fame,
Waiting for Ullman and Mahovlich,
Kids unsure as to which was which.
One little girl there made me laugh.
She was hoping for an old man's autograph.
She must have been confused or why was she
Holding out her pen to me?
I'm too old....
If only I'd listened to my coach's advice
And spent ev'ry extra hour on the ice,
Working on my shot and skating but
By now I'd be working on my chip and putt.
Retired in my 30's and over the hill,
Trying to sell my coaching or my public speaking skills,
Building my future from my memories.
That's where I am already but with two good knees!
The question for these times is not "Why?".
"Who?" has little meaning now.
It's no use to ask me "Where?" or "When?"
The only word of hope is "How?".
I'm too old for the NHL
And I'll never be in "The Hockey News".
I'll never make millions but it's just as well.
The more I have, the more I lose
