Poking a little fun at the women who shop and the men who love them. A bouncy little number, driven by an impulse to collect a house of wares...
Credits: Words and music by Craig Collins. Performed by Craig Collins (electric rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass guitar, fuzz bass track, percussion, vocal).

    Story Behind the Song
Originally called Store Blues, but I later decided Love on Sale was a better fit. I had written a song called Blue Stores, and thought I should complement it with one called Store Blues. All of the tracks except the bass were recorded in October 1972 -- I added the "real" bass track in August 1999 to supplement the fuzz bass part I had done using the lower strings of my electric guitar. I never pretended to be a great guitarist, I was just having some fun here.

    Lyrics
She shops in a bargain basement all day long
She brings home aluminum pans made in Hong Kong
She's looking for a bargain but she failed
    My love's not on sale

Twenty minutes and she'll clean you out wall to wall
Spends her money in the five-and-tens and in the mall
She's buying up some lovin but she'll fail
    My love's not on sale

Driven by an impulse to collect a house of wares
With the flowered towels in her bathroom she got no cares
Murphy's her idea of ecstasy, that's not for me

    * Note: G.C. Murphy was a discount store chain in the 50s-60s-70s.
Such stores used to be called "five-and-tens" or "dime stores"
