Mysterious, rockin' song, with great guitar grooves, about a strange woman who predicts the weather - or does she cause it? You decide.
CD: Stranger Than Fiction   Label: Raku Records

    Story Behind the Song
The weather-predictor in real life is my dog Sophie...she gets crazed when there is a storm coming, and usually knows long before we do that something is on the way (she also inspired the song "Man's Best Friend"). Good dog.

The details of the song lyric are as true to Sophie's actual life as possible - she really did show up pregnant and pathetic, and she moved into my next-door-neighbor's yard - after she had her puppies, he was going to take her to the pound...I adopted her instead.

An interesting recording note: the thunderstorm sounds that you hear on the track were recorded by me in Steamboat Springs, Co in the summer of '01. Wish you could see the lightning too, it was spectacular! I took my Powerbook out onto the porch of the cabin where I was staying and just hit record (using the built-in mic! Ididn't want to waste any time setting up a good mic...might miss something). I sat there for about 15 minutes letting the "tape" run.

    Lyrics
Sophie was a girl out on her own
Baby on the way long way from home
Even if she knew how, she can’t go back now
They put her out said she was out-of-whack now

She found someone to love and settled down
At least until the baby came around
He said you’ve got to choose it’s me or him girl
As soon as that child was gone you could hear the winds swirl

Sophie says that there’s weather comin’
You better have somewhere to go
When Sophie says that there’s weather comin’
You can bet the winds will blow
    When Sophie says so

Alone up on the hill for 60 years
People down below always steer clear
Of the mad old woman who makes the rain come
They swear that they can hear her pain drum

Sophie says that there’s weather comin’
You better have somewhere to go
When Sophie says that there’s weather comin’
You can bet the winds will blow
    When Sophie says so

If you ask her how she knows
She’ll say she doesn’t bid the rain or snow
This thing inside her just grows, then...

    CHORUS
