Story Behind the Song
This was the first tune David and I wrote together. It was written over the course of a couple of weeks with time split between my living room and the storage warehouse in the building where we worked. Cowriting with someone for the first time can often feel awkward and prove fruitless. Therefore, this song was quite a surprise. It is about celebrating that which helps you keep your head in the game and your eye on the ball.
Lyrics
Ain't trying to be no poet
And I don't claim to know much
Don't think I'm thinking straight now
But I think I know this much
I've been good, I've been real good
Just try to unwind in time
To come with me and watch me lose my mind
Won't you take me, Freedom
Won't you take me, Grace
Won't you take me to see all the good things in this place
And I know there's a place beyond us
My barefeet can go
Let it wash all over, watch it wash all over my soul
I know that I've been shaken
You know that I've been cold
I've been stubborn
Or so I've been told
But I'll be good, it'll be real good
Just try to untie your mind
Come with me and we'll be flying high
Runnin', flyin', floatin', Baby
Now close your pretty eyes
Enjoy the ride
Won't you take me, Freedom
Won't you take me, Grace
Won't you take me to see all the good things in this place
And I know there's a place beyond us
My barefeet can go
Let it wash all over, wind me up and watch me go
Just try to unwind in time
To come with me and watch me lose my mind
We don't have to worry about a thing
We don't have to worry, not this time
