    Story Behind the Song
America My Country was written by Jackne Drudge in 1976 for America's bicentennial. Jackne was working as a Deputy Sheriff at the time, but had also been a musician since he was 15 years old. The idea for the song came to him as he patrolled one night on the midnight shift, and he pulled over and wrote the words down. He then put it to music and sang it at a family gathering. Jackne was forced to retire from law enforcement shortly after that due to an injury sustained on the job, but continued to play music.

When the events of September 11th occurred I contacted Jackne and told him that we needed to produce the song which had only been performed at private functions. I was only 10 when he wrote it , but it had always been one of my favorite songs.

I am Jackne's son and I am now a Deputy Sheriff. I am also a musician as well as the owner of Triple D Productions in Orlando.
We then contacted my uncle, Nolan Drudge, who is also a very talented musician and composer with our idea. The three of us then began working on the song. After about a week we were ready to record the demo. We contacted a singer, Chris Nunley, who we had
performed with before. (You may remember Chris from The Royal Guardsmen of "Snoopy vs. Red Barron" fame) Chris sings lead and another close friend, Carmen Cruz, sings back-up vocals. The entire song was produced and recorded in my private project studio in Orlando. Nolan plays piano and Keyboard /synths, Jackne plays trumpet, and I programmed bass and drum sequences. The entire project took about 3 weeks.

    Lyrics
    America my country
    old glory flying high
I love you with my heart and soul
    and here's the reason why

You are more than just a country
You're the work of God's own hands
From your mountains and your valleys
    To your golden desert sands

Add the oceans that surround you
With their shades of green and blue
There's no other nation on this earth
    That can compare with you

    (Bridge)
You are hope for those throughout the world
    Whose freedom is denied
We owe the safety of your shores
to those who fought and died

    (Chorus)
    America America
I pledge this vow to thee
I'll keep you just the way you are
    So beautiful and free

    (Recitation)
    America my country
With you I'll make my stand
To make this world a safer place
    To lend a helping hand

To the people of all nations
    Who seek their freedom too
And hope and pray someday they'll have
    A country just like you

    (Chorus)
    America America
I pledge this vow to thee
I'll keep you just the way you are
    So beautiful and free
I'll love you just the way you are
    so beautiful and free

    (Ending)
    America
    America
    America
