Does a name determine the nature of a thing? Or does the nature of a thing determine its name? See if you can find the answer in this song about a man with an identity crisis.@

    Story Behind the Song
Most of the time songs the songs I write just come out, all at once or in a few short heaves. Sometimes it's like the prologue to the performance of "Every sperm is sacred" in Monty Python's the Meaning of Life, where the stork drops the baby through the chimney. Sometimes they all come out the same. Not another one! "Will you get that one Deidre."
Other times they show up out of nowhere like a fart when you are laughing.
This song was more like a beautiful belch--well prepared and executed.

    Lyrics
    The Name

Marc was a sailor. He lived by the sea,
and his sorrow was an ocean.
For she dressed in flowers, had warmed him
when the sea stole his name.

    Chorus:
    Can you ride the tide
To the place where the eagle cries
    Can you find her eyes
Where she's watching you like a flame in the night

Marc found a penny. He washed it clean.
And the sidewalk was an ocean
    His dreams were of flowers.
And they filled the place where his name had been

    Chorus

The people spoke of a kingdom
    (don't fear your name)
All in ruin cuz the land had no king
    (don't fear your name)
So he shoved his boat into the river
    (don't fear your name)
    And sailed off to claim
    His name
    (don't fear your name)

Marc was a sailor. King of the seas,
And his name was the ocean.
For he dressed in flowers had found her
    in a memory

    Chorus
