Story Behind the Song
"On My Way" is about that moment when you realize that you really are on the right track, and doing what you should be doing. Overcoming the years of negative influence from family members, friends and others to finally realize that your dream is up to you, and no one can stop you but yourself.
The song was written after I'd been in NYC for about 7 months, shortly after my first solo gig in the village. The club was called the "Fast Folk Cafe".
It was written in the space of just a few days, but wasn't recorded right away. One acoustic recording was made a few years back that is basically the same arrangement as you hear now, but what you hear now with the band is just so much more.
Lyrics
Seems so long ago
A million yesterdays
Since I first felt the music in me
Looked at the road of tomorrow
I tried to turn away
Until something knocked the breath out of me
Now I see
That this road i walk ain't so lonely
With this light inside me
I can see this is the only way for me
And I'm on my way
Yes I'm on my way
Said I'm on my way
Ain't nothing gonna stop me no more
Rising up from the bottom
Of my deep blue sea
Rising up takes the breath out of me
Chains that held me down
Now they float away
Leaving helping hands as I break the day
And this road I walk ain't so lonely
With this light inside me
I can see this is the only way for me
Chorus
And this road I walk ain't so lonely
With this light inside me
I can see this is the only
Way for me.
Chorus.....
