Story Behind the Song
a story of a failed relationship dominated by an overbearing wife. Mental abuse can in some cases be as damaging as physical. In addition, it shows us that men are as prone to abuse by women as the other way round.
Lyrics
If you still have mercy in your heart so full of pain,
And if you’re not too busy being down,
If you have a doorway in your cellar full of souls,
Let’s beat upon the walls and break them down.
Let us take our love down to a river,
Throw it in and see if it can swim,
‘Cos everywhere I’m going,
Everywhere I’ve been,
It seems I’m on the outside, the outside looking in.
And oh, I need some wings to fly,
And oh, I need something to show,
And yes, we need someone to be,
And oh, we need something to show.
I walked across the desert for a hundred thousand miles,
And only felt that I was walking home;
I’ve chased away the vampires that knock upon your door,
Crying out for blood when you got no more.
Let us take our love to a forgiver,
Or stand and watch it drowning in the sea.
We’ll raise our hands above us,
Absolve ourselves of sin,
Come in from the outside, the outside looking in.
And oh, I need some wings to fly,
And oh, I need something to show,
And yes, we need someone to be,
And oh, we need something to show,
And oh, we need somewhere to go.
