Story Behind the Song
If we had a chance to see God in all His glory, I have a hard time believing that any of us would really stick our fists in His face and say, "I donąt care who You are, I am going to live my life my way." But God, in His genius plan, gives us enough revelation to be responsible for before Him. I think of Acts 17:30 which says: "In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now He commands men everywhere to repent."
If it is true that mankind has suppressed the truth in wickedness (Romans 1:18) and if we truly are without excuse before Him (Romans 1:20)...if people know of God's righteous decree that those who live in wickedness deserve death, and approve of those who practice wickedness (Romans 1:32)...Wow! If all this is true...then how much more true is the God who deals with people in just and merciful ways through His Son, Jesus Christ?
If we willfully continue in our wickedness, or if we morally try to build our own bridge...both of these acts is like sticking your fist in the face of God. Repent instead. Believe on the one who has saved you, and follow in His ways.
Lyrics
In the year 2050,
When your tomb and mine are
Gathering dust.
When our names are only
Mentioned at family reunions
By our children's
Children's children.
What will they say about us?
Chorus:
You stuck your fist
In the face of God.
And thought that you could
Get away with it.
You stuck your fist
In the face of God.
And thought that there was nothin'
Nothin' He could do
Nothin' He could do about.
Nothin' He could do about it.
It's too scary for us to consider.
That somewhere in time
A day would come.
That we stand before the throne
Of the God that made us.
Oh, the sheer terror
It makes you go...NUMB!!!
Chorus
