Story Behind the Song
Melody and lyrics originally copyrighted by Bar Watson under the same name in 1978. Spence created new lyrics under the same title and Doug arranged it as an uptempo jazz waltz. Paul Rosenstock then added the solo jazz guitar track separately.
Lyrics
"In The Early Morning's Light"
(new lyrics by Spence Watson)
First Verse:
In the early morning's light, when the sun begins to rise,
And we're snuggled tight on the edge of night, it's then I realize:
Any dawn without your love, is a morn' I can't forsee.
If I lost you now I would not know how to bear my ennui.
Day by day, year by year, you cushion all life's shocks.
It's the knack that you have to loosen every knot.
And when evening shadows fall, I'll be waiting for your call.
With your faith, I'm blessed. In your trust, I'll rest -- all enwrapped in your enthrall!
Second Verse:
In the early morning's light, when the jets still burn on cool,
To the Orbs still bright in the western sky, I thank my Lord for you!
Thru the hours we're apart, I'm remembering your face.
When it's time to start heading home, I'll haste to meet with your embrace!
Night to night, near to far, you've given me such joy.
Don't know why I'm so bold, I wish I could be coy!
For when evening shadows fall, I'll be in your arms once more.
And I'll have it all, sharing large and small with the one that I adore!
