Story Behind the Song
Vic performed all tracks, including drum machine programming, keyboards, acoustic guitar, violin, lead and backup vocals. Recorded in his garage in 1989, this song is about several of Vic's least favorite neighbors.
Lyrics
I'm a republican
Sitting in my easy chair,
In my mortgaged home,
On the right side of the tracks.
I am a veteran
Of a foreign war
I served my country well
On my own accord
My hair is short,
Cut close to the scalp.
I like it that way.
I'm right, you're wrong,
What was that?
I can't hear what you say!
I'm on the right side
I'm on the right side
The only side
I'm a republican
Doo-doo-doo (etc.)
I'm a republican
Sitting in my easy chair
Watching the game of the week
With a six-pack by my side.
I subscribe to magazines
Field and Stream,
Soldier of Fortune,
National Geographic too!
I don't want blacks or Mexicans
In my neighborhood!
They steal, deal drugs,
And drive down property values!
I'm on the right side
I'm on the right side
The only side
I'm a republican
Doo-doo-doo (etc.)
(Instrumental)
I'm a republican
I believe in gun control.
I've got all my guns
under my control.
I don't need security
I've got a Colt 45 in here with me
I'll scare off intruders
In my fatigues, flack jacket and army boots!
My neck is red,
My collar blue.
I like it that way.
I don't hear liberals talking to me
I don't see things their way.
I'm on the right side
I'm on the right side
The only side
I'm a republican
Doo-doo-doo (etc.)
