Story Behind the Song
I had an infatuation in college (1994) with a girl who sat down the aisle from me in art history. After several weeks I finally, overcame the shyness that was preventing me from asking her out. We hung out for a couple of weeks, and I took her to the opera. At the end of the date, she moved when I went to kiss her and revealed to me that she just wanted to be "friends"... it was my 19th birthday too. Regardless, she was the first girl I ever met that loved the Sex Pistols, so a slow, sappy song was not appropriate to honor her with. The song itself is no doubt similar to Green Day's "She"... deliberately though, as this song was playing in my car one day while driving her back from class... she was intrigued by it's lyrics and it was her first time hearing Green Day. So, Jodie, if you're out there... "Hey!" This one is for you.
Lyrics
Sittin two seats from you in class
Do you look when I pass?
Wonderin if you'll ever feel the same way about me
Hey Jodi I want you so badly
I don't know why
Maybe I'm too shy
At this rate I will never know
Cause you might use me
And that would confuse me
I don't think I really want to know
Hey Jodie
One night I decided to take you to an opera show
I sat there and pretended that I loved it
One minute we're doin' fine and then you wanted to go
I had no idea I was your puppet
I don't know why
Maybe I'm too shy
At this rate I will never know
When I tried to kiss you
I completely missed you
And I don't think I really want to know
Hey Jodie
