    Story Behind the Song
This song was written in about a week while on the bus. It was recorded at VoodooVibe over the course of about 2 months, and went through many different arrangements and mixes before we were finally happy.

    Lyrics
Half awake and half asleep these crazy hours that I keep
Buried in my thoughts, you love or love me not
To listen to you talk you'ld think this love affair was on the brink
What was it that you said? You wish that I was dead?

I thought that was a little strong when I don't know what I did wrong.
Just give me one more guess or tell me, I'll confess
So what am I supposed to do to show you that my love is true?
I tried to play your game, I'm lonely just the same.

I was a man of action.
You've reduced me to a fraction.
    How will I recover?
You know I'll never love another.
There's no way I could last one day
    If you say we're through.

Somehow I've got to get you back aboard this train that jumped the track
I guess I better bathe, comb my hair and shave.
And shower you with kind respect; I'll kiss your hand and genuflect.
I'll try to be discreet, I'll grovel at your feet.

I'll put my hound's-tooth three-piece on, pick some flowers from your lawn
I'll give you anything, I'll buy a diamond ring
Just show a little sympathy, I'm not the man I used to be
I've had a day to change, my life is rearranged.

    Chorus

Well I must sound pathetic, forced to be poetic
    It's not me.
Here I am at your door scared to knock, scared to go
    Can't you see?
