Story Behind the Song
Legend describes the hills named Sheebag and Sheemore as having the ruins of fairy castles, beneath which lay the tombs of heroes from a battle between two rival kingdoms. According to "Carolan -- the Life, Times, and Music of an Irish Harper" by Donal O'Sullivan, this tune was the result of one of O'Carolan's first efforts at composition, after hearing the legend from his first patron, a Mr. Reynolds, who lived near the hills.
