A favorite among our fans. Angels is an introspective song about struggling to understand what went wrong when the person you love becomes someone you can't be around. |

Story Behind the Song
The darkest times are always easiest to remember. After breaking up with his girlfriend of 3 years in 1997, Mike wrote the lyrics to this song. He wanted to express his frustration at the fact that someone so special to him had turned into someone he hardly knew anymore.
Jim was also in the process of breaking up with his girlfriend of 3 years. As Mike and Jim filled in the lyrics with music, Angels became an anthem of sadness and frustration. Angels was the first song written by Sober and as they grew musically, Angels has matured with them.
This particular recording was done in just one take for each part. This is unique, because Angels has always been hard for Sober to record because Angels is so deeply personal to the band.
Lyrics
"Not like the other girls", you said
Laughing alone in the park after dark
When the other girls
Were talking on the phone.
"Tell me again what I want to hear." You spoke.
Laughing all the same again,
The stains of a million sin skins
Covering my bones.
[Chorus]
Even angels fall...
They lose their faith, that's all.
Devils are angels, too.
Just like me and you.
A beating heart, tarnished on the outside, a devil is always a mask.
Inside you'll find an angel.
So where's your angel now?
I see you again on a nearby street
Watching your mad sad face turn into stone
As you force down
The sound of your heartbeat.
I always remember in our lives before,
You always wore a smile and your own kind of style
That I thought were out of this world.
[Chorus]
Jump off the bridge, come back.
I need you perfect like you always were.
Perfect memories coming back
Of a life we knew before you left my life
And closed the door.
(You're gone again)
[Chorus]
