I was probably under the influence of your basic 19th century Russian literature peasant character when I created the first person, who "shakes his head" at "the way things are". The song is a little bit of a prayer.
Credits: Words, lyrics, instruments, production, etc. by Jonathan David Steinhoff

    Story Behind the Song
I did the basic track of the piano and singing simultaneously in the fourth take, and initially meant to embellish it, but decided it needed to be simple. It's about a simple person but his soul is universal.

    Lyrics
There's a thing stops by here
    Waiting for my contribution
    I drop it in
    Then it goes over there

But these days, with things the way they are
After that all I can do
Is shake my head, shake my head
I shake my head all the time now
    I shake my head

I just want to go out into that world
That I used to see on my box of Cheerios
    When I was young

But these days everything seems wrong
I can't even get my waitress to bring me my check
    They just leave the building
And leave me sitting there, waiting for my check

    [refrain:]
All I can do is shake my head
I shake my head all the time now
All I can do is shake my head
I shake my head all the time now

Some people think that they're on
    Too tight a leash
Yeah well but sometimes I think some people's leashes aren't tight enough
I feel them all the way over here
They say it's okay to drink beer
Oh but you can't smoke pot
    No you can't smoke pot

    [refrain]

    More and more these days
With things being the way they are
    I get into a mood
And nothing can break that mood
I see everything from that mood
    Nothing can change that mood
    And I'm glad about that

Once in a while, but not too often
I think about the Earth being going
    What will we do
    Without gravity?

    [refrain]

There's a thing stops by here
    Waiting for my contribution
    I drop it in
    Then it goes over there
