Reflective worship song along the lines of loving God and being willing to be changed so that it impacts those around us.
As you'd probably guess from the title, the refrain is taken from Matthew 22:34-40 (the 'greatest commandment'), with Amos 5:24 tied in.
The themes of the verses are taken to an extent from 2 Corinthians, the idea of being able to comfort others because we ourselves have been comforted by God, to be able to love others because God loves us, etc. The bit about us being letters is from 2 Corinthians 3:3. |

Story Behind the Song
Track 1 - heth with guitar, strumming and singing.
Track 2 - picking out a few notes for rythm and variety.
That's kind-of it, really.
Lyrics
Lord in our weaknesses, show us your face,
For we can't change ourselves, but rely upon your grace.
Where we're crumbling and grudging, oh let our flesh die -
Holy Spirit bring freedom where we are so dry.
You're the greatest expression of comfort and love
Write our hearts as your letters on earth from above.
With the justice and mercy you showed upon the cross,
Holy Spirit refine out the gold from the dross.
Love the Lord, our Father kind,
Heart and soul and strength and mind.
So his justice rolls in riverbeds so wide
Neighbours drinking from the side.
Lord may we thirst for your righteous decrees,
May you humble us, bringing us down upon our knees.
Take us to the position where we will respond,
Spreading grace, truth and mercy at home and beyond.
Compassion for lepers and love for the poor,
May we build in your kingdom and point to the door,
To your throne room where you will provide and forgive,
For your honour and glory, oh may the dead live.
