Story Behind the Song
Ever heard the story about Coca Cola's early days...when it actually contained real COCAINE? A lot of people got more than they bargained for after inbibing in a couple of these seemingly innocent "soft drinks". This song is based loosely around an actual story of two such unsuspecting people, and the consequences of their first taste of "the new Coca-Cola"...
The instrumental tracks were laid down in a couple of separate sessions, and the vocal layers all added during a singular session on a different date...mostly in one take. The mix-down to digital format was then accomplished the next day. A speedy new world record for itchieCat!
Special thanks to D.J. Tompkins for the snazzy lead guitars...
Lyrics
Soda Pop Bop
(by AFB)
Grampa Babaluba was-a tellin' me
About the new Coca-Cola
Yes, the new Coca-Cola
That's what Grampa Babaluba was-a tellin' me.
He said, "Grandma Babaluba and me...
We drank a new Coca-Cola
Yes, a new Coca-Cola
That's when Grandma and me,
We started walkin', you see...
We started walkin' the floor
We were walkin' the floor
We were walkin' the floor all night!
We were so tired in the morning,
We couldn't make it to the fields
By daylight...
We were walkin' the floor,
We were walkin' the floor,
We were walkin' the floor all night.
That's when Grandma Babaluba said,
'Dammit, I know somethin' ain't right!'"
(instrumental break)
(instrumental and vocal improv to end...)
