This arrangement by the contemporary American composer, Nicholas Palmer, of the well known 19th century German Christmas song by Ed. Ebel,gives the impression of the swirling snow by the continuous triplet sixteenth note patterns found in the piano part. Also noteworthy, are the lovely chromatic harmonies accompanying the text describing the peace and warmth of heart we feel during this season. |

Story Behind the Song
English translation of Mr. Ebel's German text:
Gently falls the snow,
Calm and motionless is the sea,
Christmaslike sparkles the forest:
Rejoice, the Christ child is coming soon!
All hearts are warm,
Grief and sorrow are silenced,
Life's cares disappear:
Rejoice, the Christ child comes soon!
Soon is coming that holy night,
The choir of angels awake;
Listen, how lovely it sounds:
Rejoice, the Christ child comes soon!
Lyrics
Leise rieselt der Schnee,
Still und starr ruht der See;
Weihnachtlich glaenzet der Wald:
Freue dich, Christkind kommt bald!
In dem Herzen ists warm,
Still schweigt Kummer und Harm,
Sorge des Lebens verhallt:
Freue dich, Christkind kommt bald!
Bald ist heilige Nacht,
Chor der Engel erwacht,
Hoert nur, wie lieblich es schallt:
Freue dich, Christkind kommt bald!
