This early 20th arrangement by Willem Pijper of an old Dutch folksong, depicts a rather hurried journey to Bethlehem by the Magi. The text continues the story to the point of the Magi worshipping the baby Jesus and presenting him with their gifts of gold, frankensense and myrrh.
Credits: Don Sikkema, baritone; Nicholas Palmer, pianist

    Story Behind the Song
    English translation of the text:
There came three kings from a far land,
Now rock we, now rock we,
    To bring God an offering,
    So they were happy.

They came from the east, from far away,
Only by the light of one star,
    So they were happy.

They heard they should not linger,
    Herod was following then,
    So they were sad.

They followed the star and soon
Came to Bethlehem and found the child,
    So they were happy.

They offered him gold frankincense and myrrh.
They praised the child again and again,
    So they were happy.

    Lyrics
Daer quamen dry koningen uyt verre landen,
