Carol Lowery: Tell My Heart.
Carol opens her song with her dusky sharp voice searching for sadness;
the wrench of betrayal still fresh in the heart. The piano is plaintive
underpinning the gravel-laden, but ever-sharpening tone of Carol's
voice
as it becomes increasingly mournful in this short sharp jab at the loss
of a lover and a friend. The harmonising of two distinct voices adds to
the woe suffered by the song's central character. The listener is drawn
to her pain. It's not so much the lyrics, but the instinctual sense of
foreboding lurking behind the simple structure of the music. The voice
isn't quite a dirge, but it remains a funeral pyre for one and ends in
the lover's lament and the lover's curt self-denial. Like Carol's
voice,
