Story Behind the Song
The Florida “truth” Campaign Lays Down the Beat to Big Tobacco, Hip Hop Style With New CDw - Wu-Tang Clan’s Walter Reed and DJ-JS1 Take “truth” to the Streets
Walter Reed, a member of the Wu-Tang Clan affiliated Hip-Hop group, Sunz of Man, recently teamed up with DJ-JS1 to write and produce a song for the Florida “truth” Anti-Tobacco Campaign called, “Focus on the Positive Remix.”
Together with the producing talents of DJ-JS1, Reed writes lyrics that expose the harsh reality of Big Tobacco’s core business: “…{E}very 8 seconds someone dies. Each time costing us lives ‘cause of corporate lies. I’m forced inside the offices where the bosses hide. My thoughts just glide like gem stars across the mind. I’m ripping the rhyme…Hollah if you felt me, Focus on the Positive.”
This launches the statewide distribution of the “Focus on the Positive” commercial which will be seen in more than 40 AMC Theaters on 640 screens throughout Florida beginning Nov. 2 and running through the end of December. Participating theaters will also promote the campaign with tobacco trivia movie screen slides and play the original score in theater lobbies. A one-minute version of the musical will also begin airing as a television commercial.
The truth advertising campaign, part of the Florida tobacco awareness program, was created as a result of the $11.3 billion settlement with the tobacco industry. Truth is a teen-driven and teen-inspired brand known for its edgy humor and honesty.
The “Focus on the Positive” commercial can be seen by logging on to: www.wholetruth.com/focus. The song lyrics and a downloadable cell phone ring version are also available through the truth website.
Lyrics
Verse 1
It’s just truth, the facts when I’m talking to you
Do your own thing I’m just walking you through
Facts are facts. I’m here just to place it on tracks
You make these big corps fat if you purchase a pack
My main objective is to flow and
Remain on records. So long as write
Lyrics that contain a message
My mic will forever flames
I sustain a presence
Like God or like Jesus I should be throwing a rod
I’m the truth! Thrown in your cards
It’s over.
Take your last breath
[Priest] - shock of the culture.
I’m like the Mayans chipping
Rock into sculptures
Hold up…
Focus on the Positive
Until the major corps acknowledge the kid.
Let it live!
Verse 2
Let’s Go!
It’s me, Priest - the composer of street lyrics
Mind like the chief falling in deep spirits
Light an incense [as] the vibes get intense
First let’s talk about our major difference
For instance every 8 seconds someone dies
Each time costing us lives ‘cause of corporate lies
I’m forced inside the offices where the bosses hide
My thoughts just glide like gem stars across the mind
I’m ripping the rhyme
Watch how I’m flipping the line
Call me the pearl, the stone that sits in the world
The Dalai Lama
I write about truth and drama
Defeat and honor
Priest, I’m rather unique
Complete with honor
Verse 3
My pen displays paintings with colorful words
I show you camera lights ‘til you see couples with furs
I write movies
With a soundtrack that sure is beauty
With rich sound while the screen advises you to sit down
The mixdown or the edits
Each name that I write in the credits
Is for the skeptics
The movie. The message.
101 poisons contained in each puff
Priest, one of the thousands to speak up
Its King Tut.
Take a dirty rhyme and make it clean cut
You [are] a worthy mind
I’m supreme, what!
Can you tell me
Mind extremely wealthy
Hollah if you felt me
Focus on the Positive
Open like the Greek Scholars in the colleges
Throw your dollars at the kids
Focus on the Positive
What!
