Story Behind the Song
We recorded all of the songs for Gamer on a Tascam 8 Track portable tape machine. I recorded a rough vocal & guitar track to a "click" track at my apartment. I then took the machine out to Danny & Jerry's house to record their parts. We started recording the album around 11am and by the time we got around to this song, it was late afternoon. Danny, being the ultimate host, was preparing us a "band" dinner. As I started the tape he remembered he had pasta cooking on the stove. He called out to his brother Jerry to "watch the macaroni" not knowing that the tape was rolling. When it came time to mix the song a few weeks later, I decided to leave it on, much to Danny’s delight. The name "Gamer" is a sports term. We decided on that name because we were all sports nuts & we always wore sport shirts on stage (being from Pittsburgh, they were all Pittsburgh teams of course). We also talked about getting baseballs, footballs, etc with our name on them to pass out at the gigs. Ah.... the good old days!
Lyrics
(Verse) Memories are the thoughts of things that used to be
Destiny is the fate we all wish we could see
Misery is the grief of one who knows what's gone
Agony is the pain of one who must go on
(Chorus) I didn't want to hurt you lie & desert you
I never wanted you to be blue
I didn't want to bleed you cheat or mislead you
I honestly tried to be true but I couldn't seem to
Hold on Hold on Hold on to you
(Verse) Energy is the force for those who must be strong
Adultery is the act of one who's done you wrong
Apology is the plea from one who's sorry now
History is the past that you wish you could change somehow
(Chorus - End)
