Well, good Fame and Fortune, you wait for a while 'Cause I'm just too busy, the next Meryl Streep has tucked in the kids and she's ready for sleep. Dear Fame and Fortune, let's make a date to finally get together before it's too late. When I see Sally Field up on that screen I imagine myself in her place in the scene. Fame and Fortune, when will you happen to me? The romance, the heartache, the happy ending, the costumes, the make-up, the fun in pretending. Fame and fortune, what would I give just once to be... Flying out to Hollywood to meet the director, learning all my lines, the meatier the better. Getting up at 4 a.m. and stumbling down the hall, dashing out the door to make an early call And waiting and waiting for my turn in the light, to take as many takes it takes until I get it right. At the end of the day, I collapse in a heap, a sense of great accomplishment and aching feet... Gee, that sounds familiar, the next Sally Field has tucked in the kids and the truth is revealed: Dear Fame and Fortune, your life sounds fine but I like this one better. You want to try mine? Wouldn't it be nice if my life were a movie. Starring in the story of my life would be groovy. Fame and fortune, why don't you move in with me? I'd write the script, make it fun and rewarding. My family are the leads and my friends are supporting. Fame and Fortune, pay attention and you'll see... I'd live my life the same as always day after day, the cameras and the crew nicely hidden away. The audience would cheer every triumph I gain. They'd laugh at my jokes and cry at my pain. No waiting and waiting for 10,000 takes. We rework all the crucial scenes and edit out mistakes. The fans would adore me. The money pours in. The only question is how many awards I win.
