Story Behind the Song
I wrote this one in late June. My girlfriend was away in Europe on vacation and I was left to waste away my days doing nothing but play guitar. It's one of the songs I'm proudest of, probably because it's one of the few that I feel have been totally "realized" or completed. I recorded this at home using a drum machine, 3 layers of vocals and 3 layers of guitar. I wish the acoustic guitar sounded "thicker", though.
Lyrics
Though you're time zones away and writing me letters, it's just not the same as when you were here. Though our messages flow through wires and switches it just can't replace the warmth of your kiss. 52 days (just a fraction of a lifetime) but they seem to drag on like a thousand years. I listen to my records and stare at my photographs and think of the day when the wheels of your plane they took their lift from the faded white lines of the runway strip. Though when those same wheels return, they'll have faded further, I'll still be true to you (never another).
Never before did I think that I'd be able to have something like this or someone like you. I spend hours in bed, sleeping just to try to pass the time away until your return. I call you up, just to hear your voice coming long long distance into my room. Spending miserable afternoons listening to rain and thinking of the day when the wheels of your plane they took their lift from the faded white lines of the runway strip. Though when those same wheels return, they'll have faded further, I'll still be true to you (never another).
