Story Behind the Song
This English interpretation for Rinken Teruya's (Rinkenband) song, "Timunikakati", was first written for an album called "Okinawa Time", produced by Osamu Kitajima in 1990. I wanted to include that cut on this project, since "Okinawa Time" seemed slated for permanent residence in the storage vault of Den Music. However, a mere ten years after it was recorded, it was picked up for Asian release by a Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. For more about that remarkable lesson on "Zen and the Art of Patience in Record Deals", see "Okinawa Time".
Due to arcane binders in legal contracts, the original recording of "The Spirit of Love" could not be used on "Anjani". I am very grateful to Osamu Kitajima. He kindly agreed to put aside his own projects to re-create this version of the song. This entailed hunting down track sheets and hauling out obsolete keyboards from storage and reconfiguring his studio to what is was like ten years ago. That took three days. Then, Osamu updated and rerecorded the music and my vocals, and mixed it. So I'm not just grateful--indebted is more like it. Osamu-san, arigatou!
Lyrics
In this life
i want nothing more
than to love what i'm living for
with the joy
you have brought to me
you inspire the song i sing
the spirit of love
has kept us united
being together was meant to be
as a river flows to the sea
Ichimaden
washiraran
kutunuati timuni
timunikakati
