    Story Behind the Song
This song has gone through many incarnations over the years beginning back when young Clyde was in high school. He is quite pleased with the current, highly sophisticated rendition presented here.

    Lyrics
    A COUNTRY CAROL

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the barn
    Not a creature was stirrin
They just didnt give a darn
    So Santa was comin
    What the heck?
Last year all I got was a raw chicken neck
    The dogs was a barkin
    The moon shone bright
And me and ole Ma was a snugglin up tight
The younguns was wrapped up snug in their beds
While visions of possum pie danced in their heads
Up on the barn there rose such a clatter
I sprung from my bed to see what was the matter
Away to the winder I ran in a tear
And on the roof stood a dude as big as a bear
He stood by the barn five-foot tall
Fat as a hog and that aint all
I noticed he had on a bright red suit
And he near bout busted his gut when he picked up his loot
I looked behind him and guess what I saw
Eight funny critters, come quick Ma!
Ma come a runnin and tripped on her dress
Fell on the floor and made quite a mess
That big ole bear we saw on the barn
Turned out to be Santa Claus
The one thats supposed to be a yarn
Well he gave us some presents and new Mason jars
Toys for the younguns and me a new guitar
We said thank ya Bud and come back agin
Offered him some moonshine and he gave us a grin
As he got back in his wagon and whizzed outa sight
He stopped by my still for it was a mighty cold night
As he staggered away that cold Christmas night
He hollered Merry Christmas to all and to yall a good night!
