This is a little ballad written from the the point of view of the earth, the trees, the sea, and the air, pleading with humanity to wrestle with reality and figure out our real needs in this world.
CD: Gotta Be   Label: HOH Records
Credits: Lyrics by Eileen Motok, music by Eileen Motok and Aaron Bond

    Story Behind the Song
This song was written by Aaron and Eileen back in the High Life days. It was inspired by an Earth consciousness that Eileen had been harvesting. It contains two separate acoustic guitar parts so we never play it live. We included it in Gotta Be because it fit so well with the whole feel of the album and because it has a good strong positive message. Tracy Eastman from the original High Life line-up came by the studio to add some backup vocals. We are quick in the studio so it just took a couple takes to get it down, I think it is just two tracks of Aaron, one of me, and Tracy's backup vocal track. It's what I call Earth-mouth speakin'.

    Lyrics
The Earth is standing firm beneath my feet/
I hear her cry within my dreams and sleep/
She says I love my children but they're hurting me/ She cries to me/ can't let it be/
    They're killing me
    I hear a voice it's coming from the trees/
Our life it is essential to your species/
Don't cut us down you need us can't you see?/
We need to be/ It's plain to see/ just let us be
This is a call to all Humanity/
You need the Earth, the trees, the sea, and the air you breathe/ These are your needs
The sea it spreads out lusciously before me/
I nurture you so how can you ignore me/
If you take you must give so now won't you restore me/ Just let me be/ So green and free
I hear a whisper in the air we breathe/
Pollution is no joke it will destroy me/
Life is for thee/ Life is for thee/
Where will you be people if you can't breathe?
