Story Behind the Song
I pulled this song out of my ass in 1998, but never recorded it myself cos I thought it sounded too much like another local creep-rock band, Deadbolt. Through puzzling twists of fate, I ended up in the recording studio with Deadbolt in April 2001 for their Hobo Babylon sessions, and I busted out with The Hearse. It was, like all Deadbolt songs, a one-take deal!
Why did I write a song about a hearse? Cos they are sexy and cool... And the only way I am capable of writing lyrics is if they express some sort of strangeness from my subconscious.
Lyrics
Last stop, takes you right to the graveside.
The procession's creeping slowly like a nightmare curse
Get inside for a one-way ride on the hearse ...
I love them when they're all painted black.
I like when it's a Landau Cadillac
I wanna stick you in the back of the hearse ...
Funeral car, coach of death
You won't get far -- I'll make sure of that!
I love them when they're all painted black.
I like when it's a Landau Cadillac.
I wanna make it in the back of the hearse ...
