Story Behind the Song
After the music was written, the lyrics came later. Since the band is now in college, an idea about a narrator who must leave his friend seemed interesting. However, the idea of writing a song about a girl that was not an actual girlfriend but a close friend that seemed to fill that role seemed better.
Lyrics
(Verse 1)
Many years have gone by
as I have watched your great smile,
But now we're grown, and in a blaze
we have to go our separate ways,
So before you leave to go away there's
something I must say;
I fell for you so don't leave me astray.
(Chorus)
Remember Me,
and all the times you and I shared.
Remember Me,
if no one else can care for you.
Do not forget,
about the time you and I met.
Awhile ago,
I'd be the best to you I know.
(Verse 2)
I can't say why I never
told you how I could ever,
See you as something more
than just a friend who is here for,
Helping you through bad times
or when the sun shines;
So maybe we can try to cross the lines.
Chorus
(Bridge)
You said you'd always write,
to maybe shed some light,
about a friend I always knew.
You looked at me and said,
You couldn't leave just yet,
Cuz there was so much left to do.
(Instrumental)
(Verse 3)
I watched you go on that plane
and I did know, it's not the same,
Without you here to pull me through
events that I never knew
I'd face myself, with you now gone
my mind is gone, too;
You'll never know how much I will miss you.
