Haunting and heartwrenching song that gives eyes wide open view of childhood sexual abuse. The urban machine-like drum programming represents the cycle of abuse, the arpegiated piano notes the lullaby of solace and the guitar solo the call to heal.

    Story Behind the Song
Oh, I swear this song has almost killed me about 3 times. I was in so much pain
when I first wrote it because I was in turmoil about discovering that a child I knew was
being sexually abused by her father. Childhood sexual abuse is something I have had
to use every ounce of my strength to overcome and heal from and I was completely at
a loss of what to do since the parents of this child seemed determined to continue the
cycle. So, I wrote the song. Then I began recording a demo of it. I got lost in the
darkness of the subject matter while recording the vocals and left the studio crying
hysterically. I had a long pattern of turning to men and sex when I wanted out of pain
but this time I just drove my truck and cried and cried until at last the truth came up...
I began to sob: “I want my momma”. This was a critical point for me since through
all the healing work I’d done around abuse, facing what really happened, owning the
anger, becoming empowered by choice... I had never owned my need for mothering.
I went on a quest to find a woman healer to work with and found an amazing woman
named Claudette who does very deep Chakra and energy work. I was able to find my
way through and confront the woman who was the mother of the child. Recording this
song for the album was another layer of the healing I needed to do. When we went to
purchase the prayer bowl we used in the song to chime its pure tone on the word truth
I learned from the mystical owner of the shop we were in that healing does not just
move forward into the future. It is more like dropping a stone in a pool of water. The
healing we do resonates to those who come after and to those who came before.
Certainly this song, though nearly killing me with the painful subject matter, has truly
made me more conscious and whole.

    Lyrics
    View of the Child

    Mr. Empty’s taking another
    drink tonight
he’s an empty bag of bones
lost his way to find his light
    and Mr. Empty’s
    taking another life
he’s gonna rip apart her world
gonna tell her all those lies

and if you wanna know the truth
you don’t have to search for proof
you just gotta look from the view
    of the child

    She turns a blind eye
    to what she sees
can’t stand to think she’s let
    the cycle repeat
she’s afraid to face the dark
    to go alone
so she lets him take the little girl
    and fakes her happy home

and if you wanna know the truth
you don’t have to search for proof
you just gotta look from the view
    of the child
