A melodically and structurally interesting song with lots of tenor sax punctuations and a 'dual' solo ala Stitt & Rollins played by Aaron Heick
CD: Love Ballads   Label: MOS Multimedia
    Credits: Aaron Heick, Tenor sax

    Story Behind the Song
For many years, I would Rollerblade late in the evening in the west village, NYC-- a very interesting place. It used to be a real party scene on the weekends-- mostly Latinos and gays. It was a world I was mostly an observer to but I never felt unwelcome. This song is my personal experience reconnecting with my own deepest emotions amidst this milieu.

    Lyrics

Rollerblading on the promenade by the Hudson River
Awaiting guidance from the goddess that shines above me like a giant searchlight through the sky

I know I must skate faster to become aware of a heart that is numb
As I press my thighs into action and the evening air pour into my lungs
I’m overcome by a flood of emotion

The rush of memories and sensations
have come to wake me from this slumber
That has plagued me since that summer
Now I know that I have found my way back to me

It’s Saturday night but the pier is deserted now that summer’s moved on to distant places
Trying to find my way back to that feeling that waited so long to be reawakened
But my appeal falls on deaf ears as the goddess disappears

    And I think of her
I wonder how she really feels

Nearby a man in a wheelchair lifts himself to his feet
He leans up on the railing to view the river before him
It takes all his strength just to stay in place
    And as he stands
I’m overcome by a flood of emotion

A rush of memories and sensations
have come to wake me from this slumber
That has plagued me since that summer
Now I know that I have found my way back to emotion
