Story Behind the Song
(Mike Mainier talks about the song "Sorry As You")
Mike: "Well, I was home for the weekend just after New Years Eve...and I had the whole house to myself. Since my family is always around, I decided to take advantage of their absence and try out my new electric. I plugged it into my 15" Peavey rig and let loose. I remember jamming on a G5 chord and changing the finger positioning around on it a couple of times. I must have played that for about 20 minutes before I had something to work with. I already had the opening line down on paper and...it struck me as meaning a whole lot of different things. I felt great while writing it but...mostly I was telling the story of a guy being told that his girl had cheated on him. (I realize this is a popular topic to sing about but there's more to the story.) Anyway, after the first chorus, the sun does come up again for our hero. He still feels like crap, but manages to go to a New Years Eve party. Once there, hes offered an assortment of drinks but refuses them, UNTIL, he meets a girl that is the bomb diggity. After that, he puts his mind at ease and finishes the song with a blistering, Freebird style, rant about his ex-lover. In the end, our hero will never be as sorry as the girl who tainted their love. --- The song took about 25 min to write and when I was done playing it, I played it over and over again. A week or so later, I had the chance to perform it in front of a live, studio audience. The crowd went nuts and loved the song. Hopefully, well get the chance to record it with drums in the near future and rock out to it. In the meantime, this acoustic version is the first time people were exposed to the work. It has a certain fresh quality since its live and so new. **
Lyrics
Sorry As You
song and lyrics by M. Mainier
Verse 1
So what are you trying to say about me,
Am I too close to what you need.
So what were you wondering about when you told me,
That you never had the courage to leave.
Verse 2
Have I forgotten,
Or just simply never cared.
Well my stomach growls ,
And all those dreams they fill my head.
Bridge
What am I waiting for, the truth?
I know I can never be as sorry as you.
Verse3
Well my ears are custom made to listen,
To everything that you have to say.
And I hear the sun come up through my window,
As the alarm clock wakes me up everyday.
Verse 4
I havent remembered,
Anything since New Years Eve.
I never drink too much, but since youve got the touch,
I might as well put my mind at ease.
Chorus
Bridge 2
I lie awake sometimes and wonder if its true.
Still I go down, Still I go down.
Solo break
Lovin, leavin, dying, treason, everything you ever hoped for.
Waiting, prayin, hatein, saying, everything you wanted to do.
Sorry as You....
Sorry as You....
Sorry as You....
Never be as sorry as you.....
