    Story Behind the Song
In the summer of 2000 trance had lost it's way, where before it had been filled with melodies and lush pads it was now going more industrial and tribal. While this was not a bad thing, change, after all, keeping things fresh, there was a lack of decent melodic/proggy trance.

So I decided to re-create the kind of atmoshphere I had heard in clubs circa 1998.

I sat down at my computer one day and just loaded up my trusty copy of Cubase VST, loaded a (heavily modified!) 909 kit into my sampler, edited up a pad on my Korg X-5 and programmed some synths up on VAZ+.

Then...I entered a foor-to-the-floor beat...then some hats and a clap. The groove was there...and now it was a case of using a chord progression I'd come up with earlier that week. Everything was slotting into place. Then...I found it..."that" synth sound. It was perfect, it fitted on top of the track like the two were made for each other (they were!).

I worked long into the night and at about 4 a.m. the music was all there, unmixed of course...but...something was missing...what was it? It needed something...something to pull the listener in...something where the dancfloor could fall silent...before being hurled into the track. I scoured my sample cd's for a good hour until...perfect! I had found it...the vocal sample..."I've got my love to keep me warm!". With that in place I went to bed, safe in the knowledge that all I had to do was mix the tune and I would be in possession of a beautiful piece of music...and so that's what I did.

I ummed and ahhd over levels, FX and the like until finally around 8:20 that evening (friday) I was ready to record a master version. By this time, the urgency was mounting as I had 40 minutes to burn a CD, get showered and changed, pick out my vinyls and get to the club where I have my Friday night residency.

I got there just on time and smiled as I thought of the tune residing on the CD in my bag. And then...at 10 p.m. when the dancefloor started to fill, with a large amount of trepidation I placed the CD into the caddy of the CD player, played with the pitch control for a bit to beat match it and then I started moving the crossfader accross.

As soon as the beat kicked in I killed the bass of the tune that I was mixing out of so that all that was left was a vocal.

I had done it...from Computer to Club in less than 48 hours...

And the crowd? Well I think they enjoyed it...I had the usual "what's this tune mate, when's it out, what label, who's it by...etc".

So now...I'm putting it up here to share with other people.

    Enjoy!
