Story Behind the Song
One night after a gig, we were dropping off our road manager, Jen. It was 3am and foggy. Just as we were driving up her street, we see an older guy walking down it (steep street on Twin Peaks in SF), dressed only in underwear. This is odd, we think, so we ask the guy if he needs help, and he says he's lost. So we take him into Jen's house, and try and get him to remember his own name which he was having problems with. He knew he worked for the phone company, but that was it. Finally, Erik asks him, "If we called you at work, who would we ask for?" and he says, "Jack Friday, that's my name, Jack Friday". From there, we found his name in the phone book (he lived a few blocks away) and drove him home. His wife was asleep with her hearing aids out, so we had to call the cops to break into his house to let him back in. Sad but true story of a man with Alzheimer's. Anyway it ended well enough that night...
Lyrics
Jack Friday
Verse:
C d min 7
He wanders down the streets again
It's 3 am and he's just out walking
He feels a little strange out here on the sidewalk.
No socks, T-shirt and boxer wearing,
but in his brain, it's as right as rain.
Chorus:
C|F|Bb|F
(He's Mr. Friday) (Jack Friday) (He's Mr. Friday) (Jack Friday)
He has trouble focusing these days. The weather's fine, but his eyes are glazing.
He can't remember why no more, and in every day's adventure, he
returns to the 19th century. Ask his name and he's not so sure it's.
Chorus:
You can find him just about any night. His wife asleep, the door locked tight
she doesn't seem to mind as long as she's knocked out.
He just walked out and now he's locked out and he wanders out into the night.
Maybe everything will turn out right for
Chorus:
