I like this one. Don't listen to it 12times in a row, or it makes you very sad. Take my word for it. Kind of cool in that it changes from 6/8 time to 4/4, which I couldn't hardly do on the guitar. (but don't tell anyone. shhh) Ummm, it's about Gail Wynand, and get this- the lyrics are actually good. Seriously. I think so, anyway. |

Story Behind the Song
What was the motivation for the song?
Popular demand showed the need for yet another Fountain Heads single.
What do the lyrics mean?
I dunno, they talk about Gail.
Where was the song written?
On index cards.
How long did it take to write it?
A good ten minutes maybe. They're decent lyrics, really.
How long to record?
Maybe 20 minutes.
How many takes?
Three or four. The time signature switching is tricky bidness. Also, the mixing of the track took a while. Notice how in the beginning and after the first chorus, we use some cool panning effects...
etc.
French toast?
Lyrics
Came from the streets,
Rose to the top,
Selling your soul,
And you know you can't stop.
Said you don't run this place,
But now you do.
Now when you talk,
They listen to you.
Hiding in alleys
When you were a boy,
Now the whole world's
Your miniature toy.
Build them and break them,
And throw them away.
Until it caught up with you,
One fateful day.
[chorus]
Gail Wynand,
Your life was built around success.
Gail Wynand,
You failed in finding happiness.
You met your match
In an architect.
Who lived for himself
Without regret.
Tried to support him
But lost your support.
You pleased the masses
And sacrificed art.
