Story Behind the Song
read 'catcher in the rye' and loose all your friends to adulthood... you'll get it.
If you haven't read salinger, know that he loves children. he thinks they are pure. i think he's right. holden caulfield, character from the story, protects the children playing in a field of rye from falling off a nearby cliff, into the abyss of adulthood, the loss of purity. anyway, it means a lot to me.

'Catcher'
words and music by Patrick Grady
thanks to J.D. Salinger for writting the book
which the song is based off of, and thanks to my fear of growing up, and to my friends who seem to
do it so well.
Lyrics:
[G] I never understood what it [D5sus] means to work [Cmaj7] hard. [Cmaj7] I guess I thought I understood it, but now I know that I was [G] wrong! [G] It took me eighteen years to get here, one step [D5sus] back from were I [Cmaj7] started, [Cmaj7] and I'm still dizzy from the running. All my friends are slowly [G] fading...
[G] I always like to think that I'm still [D5sus] dancing in the [Cmaj7] rye, [Cmaj7] and the past eighteen years were the funnest of my [G] life! [G] Then everyone around me, had [D5sus] approached the cliff and fallen, [Cmaj7] [Cmaj7] but Holden was the catcher who kept them all from [G] harm.
[G] I'm still dancing... [D5sus] will he be there for me?
[G] I ran back to where I started, [D5sus] with the question lingering! {eoc}
[D5sus] I'm being pushed through the [Bb] door. It's a [F] point of no return. [G]
I'm [Cmaj7] still the little [F] boy, that's terri-[G]-fied of [F] this [Bb] world.
[D5sus] I'm being pushed from the [Bb] cliff. I reach [F] back and grab ahold, [G]
to the [Cmaj7] arms of who controls. [F] Oh god, where'd [G] my [F] catcher [Bb] go?
