Story Behind the Song
At start of the Gulf War a friend of mine happened
to write a poem on what he thought about the whole incident.
Although we were in our late 20's we didn't know if this war would affect us
so we were a little concerened in that respect as well.
He had titled it The wind Rushes In and he had the line
"This man's glory, that man's bane" in there and I just loved that line.
It really said it all. Where one man lives, one man dies and the ones who survive and come back
may never be the same. The innocence is gone.
That's what I connected with and that's the lyrical approach I took. Special
thanks to my buddy Andy Maxwell on this one.
Lyrics
THE WIND RUSHES IN
He leaves here tomorrow, his life's on the line
He's hoping to borrow a little more time
To fight for his country and the good of mankind
He pledges allegiance to virtues so fine
This man's Glory; That man's bane
We stand behind our freedom but we won't take the blame
For liberty and justice, they lay down their lives
But the truth will never be the same for those who survive.
Chorus: The wind rushes in, stones turn to sand
Another man's soul returns to the land
The wind rushes in, we tally the cost
But how can we recapture the innocence lost.
Political sanctions, embargo on trade
Strategic maneuvers, a naval blockade
Religious fanatics, tyrannical fools
No boundaries for justice, they make their own rules
This man's glory, That man's bane
We stand behind our freedom but we won't take the blame
For liberty and justice, they lay down their lives
But the truth will never be the same for those who survive.
Chorus:
Bridge: Who do we believe in, when times like these come down
Confusion and deception all around
Look into your hearts; Lay down your armor there has to be a way.
We all have our reasons to carry the sword
Political power; financial rewards
Why ponder the question when the answer is clear
We are held hostage, by our own fears...
