Story Behind the Song
In the fall of 87, I was sitting in a big, cold, drafty farmhouse in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada. Nothing was going right. In fact, the house had no water. The original well had crapped out, and we had dug another well the week previous, which had also gone dry. So I'm sitting in the kitchen, watching the guy in a truck digging a well. If you've ever seen/heard a well being dug, then you know that it's like a sonic-boom metronome, so there was nothing to do but get my guitar, and over the regular "boom, boom, boom" of the digging, I wrote the song. The riff that starts the tune off, of course, is "Smokestack Lightning" which is kind of a tribute to that tune, and a bit of an in-joke as well. Hope you like it.
