No American can ever erase the mental images of the Twin Towers collapse following the terrorist attacks on the morning of 11 September 2001. Parallels to the attack on America at Pearl Harbor exactly 60 years earlier are inescapable. This moving ballad was written and produced in the hours immediately following the tragedies of 9/11 to commemorate the story of an enduring America still standing tall in the aftermath of both disasters. This song has the power to touch every generation of Americans. It's the title track for the band's popular special edition CD: "The American Trilogy." Audience reaction to this song helped inspire the one-hour worldwide web radio simulcast on December 7th 2001: "America Standing Tall: The United Way Radio Concert For America." It also inspired the new national tour of The Front Porch Country Band, "America Standing Tall: The Rolling Concerts For America." This song closes the band's shows -- to standing ovations. A great tribute to email to a veteran or friend serving in the U.S. armed forces. Note: also released as a special band project by "The Americans." Written & recorded immediately after the terrorist attacks and released one week later on 18 September 2001. (To view the complete lyrics, simply click on the art for this song.)

Story Behind the Song
The band showed up for a scheduled rehearsal on September 16, 2001, just five days after the terrorist attacks on America on 911. Like the rest of the nation, they were still emotionally distraught, still reeling from the impact of the attacks on their homeland. Rather than rehearse, they instead poured themselves into creating an original new work of music to express what they and millions of their fellow Americans were feeling. After a marathon 36-hour writing and recording session, America Standing Tall - The American Trilogy was produced and released to radio stations on 18 September 2001 as a tribute to America's fallen heroes of September 11 exactly one week earlier. "America Standing Tall" was soon rolling across the country on ariwaves from New York to Hawaii.
"I had only one thought as I watched the horror of those massive World Trade Towers collapsing: 'Whoever's doing this to us, you don't understand. We're Americans. We'll be back, stronger than ever. Standing taller than ever. We wanted to create a song that would inspire other Americans who felt just like we felt. We wanted to create a song that said to other Americans and to the world, 'The spirit of America is not about our buildings. We're not about our airlines or our material wealth or our military power. America is about the heart. And they hadn't taken that or killed that. They hadn't even gotten close. All through our history America has always come back from attacks like this and we'll come back from this too. Every generation of Americans has stood up to aggression like this and every new generation will always stand up to this. We grew up with all the stories of our parents' generation standing up to the aggression of Pearl Harbor in World War II. It's the model now. It's how our nation can prevail in the face of this new terror attack.
"As a band, we felt the need to do this. We took it personally. This song is our shared personal statement. We felt it down to the marrow of our bones as we worked together, non-stop for 36 hours. It was one unified statement from this band and we wanted the entire world to know: America's Still Standing Tall Tonight!"
- Reflections One Year Later: Comments on by the six members of The Front Porch Country Band on 18 September 2002 as they looked back one year after recording their historic release, "The American Trilogy."

AMERICA STANDING TALL
Words & Music © 2001 RWGathman for The Front Porch Country Band. USAgency Songs (BMI). All rights reserved worldwide.
The whole world still remembers
The 7th of December
America's bright blue skies
Turned red with fire
Over calm Pacific water
A place they call Pearl Harbor
No warning came - 1941
Then freedom called a nation
The "Greatest Generation"
Stood as one - America heard the call
When the war was finally over
The whole world watched in wonder
At America standing straight and proud and tall
CHORUS
And America's still standing tall tonight
With freedom's beacon shining strong and bright
And if I'm the last man standing
I'll stand for all that's right
America's still standing tall tonight
Now the world will long remember
The 11th of September
America's bright blue skies
Burned red with fire
Over calm Atlantic water
Our peaceful New York harbor
No warning came - the year 2001
Now freedom calls a nation
And the latest generation of Americans
Will stand and hear the call
And when there's no more terror
The whole world will watch in wonder
At America standing straight and proud and tall
CHORUS
And America's still standing tall tonight
With freedom's beacon shining strong and bright
And if I'm the last man standing
I'll stand for all that's right
America's still standing tall tonight
And America's still standing tall tonight
With freedom's beacon shining strong and bright
And if we're the last one's standing
We'll stand for all that's right
America's still standing tall tonight
