Story Behind the Song
The following is from an interview we did conducted by Michael Mazur, who was public relations agent for the release of this sing to radio. The song reached #71 in Kal Rudman's Top 200 "FMQB" chart for Potential Hits. It was played in most states in the US on smaller radio stations. ($$$$$ being the factor that kept it from the major markets).
Their interview, written by Michael Mazur:
Daubert & Holcombe began writing this track just as they had their numerous other songs, but in the process, the two Beatles admirers discovered that their love for Lennon's style shone brightly through this particular song. "We had this verse and chorus melody, with no lyrics," said Daubert. "I was singing it with just any words. The chords started to sound almost like an 'Imagine' arrangement, but with other chords as well. Slowly, the song morphed into a tribute to Lennon, as well as to the Beatles."
From there, Daubert & Holcombe began organizing Lennon facts. They culled together roughly 22 titles and assimilated them into lyrics paying tribute to the fallen musician. "From what we got from Lennon growing up with the Beatles, and later from his own works, we now just want to give back what we felt - to pay the respect he deserves," said Holcombe. "The first verse was inspired from a show we saw on how the FBI had a file on Lennon," Daubert said. The song begins: "Two stories of one man were told." And later in the verse, it says: "The other feared him for the politics he killed."
"We wanted this song to be a positive song, not a tear inducing, take advantage of Lennon fans song," said Daubert. "Actually, it was written for us, being long time Lennon fans. Then we thought about how this would be taken by other fans of Lennon. We were pleased that feedback from the thousands who have visited our sites recently was 99.9 percent in favor of our tribute. That one guy later changed his mind! Usually, you should expect twenty percent not to like anything from anybody. That shows how much Lennon and his music are still loved by many people, and why we are paying him tribute." (End of Interview).
We hope you will support this song and tell others about it. The reason is that we want to help people around the world, as we will be contributing to a charity that does the best work, from the sales from the single or full CD. We have selected The Spirit Foundation as the charity. That was the one started by John and Yoko. We are asking for your support so Lennon's dreams of a peaceful world can be closer to reality. Of course we know that all that is a long way off, and peace is something that this CD can't do, but we feel we should all keep trying to at least help the millions of young children that have no say in the matter of having no food, and other people who have many other needs beyond their capability. Doing nothing would leave no chance for peace or abolishing hunger. And it would only get worse. If you knew Buddy and me, like our friends and family do, you would know that we are not business people, but rather just two guys that love music, love being creative, and are trying to present this tribute in the right ways, and would Love to help out in this world. It's more than wanting to have a hit. That fades. The charity will be receiving funds from us, (you actually), and in the nanes of John Lennon and Bagism. (www.Bagism.com),not ours................. As Lennon said, "Power to the People"!
Lyrics
1ST VERSE:
Two stories of one man were told
Their versions different
like a baby grown so old
One had him on a pedestal
The other feared him
for the politics he killed
And never was before and idol with a hairdo
There to help me through
a hard days night
in my life
CHORUS:
This man gave more than a memory
He left behind the feelings for everything
2ND VERSE:
He wrote more than a few
Sometimes he took us down
that field for a view
And girl, don't let me down,
what about the walrus
Across the universe he came,
a revolution man
He had us wondering why,
Lucy was in the sky
(TO CHORUS, TO INSTR.)
1ST BRIDGE:
Too young he died,
but gave us a full life
(TO INSTR. TO 3RD VERSE)
3RD VERSE:
Imagine growing up without them
To watch the wheels turn without
all you need is love
And when you thought
a day in a life was over
Out of nowhere man came sounds of Lennon
With a little help from his friends
This man gave more than a memory
2ND BRIDGE:
For peace he led the way
Even now his voice has stayed
He had us wondering why,
Lucy was in the sky
More Than a Memory, yeah yeah yeah yeah!
