TASCAM 8-track Recording ---- Review from Godsofmusic.com ARTIST: A BRAND NEW BRAND OF ENERGY SONG: A LAZY DAY FOR LOU GENRE: ALTERNATIVE / LO-FI / LAZY BLUES SIMILAR: LOVIN' SPOONFUL, T. REX, ROBERT JOHNSON --------------------------------------------------------------------------------It’s lazy blues. It’s post-psychedelic pop. It’s a non-whistler’s dream come true. I can’t whistle, and the little hook in this song makes me lament my handicap all the more ferociously. It sucks you in like the outro of “Dock of the Bay,” only you get the foreshadowing at the beginning this time, and it just keeps you there anticipating more jubilantly pacific pop strains to be cast forth at the same lazy pace that keeps you lazing on a sunny afternoon. And thanking God there are still experiences to be had! As I indicated previously, it’s very bluesy (in a fun Robert Johnson or Taj Mahal fashion), but it’s also got that irreverent T. Rex spirit flowing freely throughout the lyrics and lo-fi tonality. And the final topper: it’s smoothed out by a breathy singer that can croon like Stevie Wonder battling a case of the hornies. What we end up with is a fresh perspective on that late 60s Lovin’ Spoonful-esque folk-blues under the influence of the drug culture and sexual revolution. Oh, I mean it’s pretty original and it’s good. Music for Midwestern barber shop experiences. Music to sip iced-tea by. Music to hold dear when you are sick of all the angsty pap of 00s rock radio.
